Raising Awareness on Social Inclusion of Individuals in Psychiatric Recovery at Lycée Sainte Famille de Kinama
The stigma surrounding mental health lived experience individuals remains a significant barrier to their full social inclusion. As part of their psychosocial rehabilitation training, our 3P INKINGI certificate candidates organized an awareness-raising activity aimed at promoting the social inclusion of experienced mental health chalenges within the school environment.
The activity specifically targeted the staff of Lycée Sainte Famille de Kinama, bringing together 29 participants (15 women and 14 men), including administrative personnel such as the Director, Prefects, and Student Supervisors, as well as members of partner organizations like psychologists, social workers, and communication officers.
A particularly moving moment was the testimony/history of a lived experience people who successfully reintegrated into the workforce after recovery. Their story captured everyone’s attention and served as a powerful example of the potential for rehabilitation and inclusion.
Key concepts such as rehabilitation, recovery, and destigmatization were explored in depth, leading to insightful discussions. The session concluded with a debate on the role of school staff in supporting lived experience people, encouraging participants to adopt a more inclusive perspective toward individuals facing mental health challenges.
